Anyone can make attacking changes by introducing two extra strikers, but Mourinho’s “brilliance” wasn’t the changes he made, but the fact his side were prepared for them, and understood their new roles clearly. Managers are often criticised for not having a Plan B, but equally unforgivable is a Plan B which is sprung on the players midway through a match, with strikers on top of each other fighting for the same balls. This was a controlled, pre-determined Plan B and, indeed, Plan C. It’s the preparation, attention to detail and communication that makes Mourinho such an effective tactician, rather than the tactical decisions themselves. -ZonalMarking -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Feyenoord's coach Ronald Koeman talks about Jose Mourinho: "Many people in the game can't stand Mourinho - [but] I am the opposite." “Mourinho may not create the most beautiful style of football. But he does create winners. Nobody turns his players into winners more than he does." “This man gets the maximum out of his teams.” On Demba Ba's winner for Chelsea against Champions League opponents PSG, Koeman declared: “Was it a piece of magic ? No. Was it the result of a brilliant attack? No. It was the result of a bunch of players with a winning mentality thanks to their coach." “He comes out with strong stuff. He did it before the PSG match in London. But he achieves what he promises." "My God, I can only show huge respect then.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Since the start of the year we have played well. There was only one game where we clearly deserved to lose, the one against Chelsea [...] on the first of January...They harassed us. Mourinho knows what he is doing. He is not the best manager in the world for nothing." Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
