🇪🇺⛔️ 𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑: Tonight was the last ever traditional group stage format we'll see in the Champions League again… 

From next season, it will be a 'swiss style system'. 

36 teams will compete in one big league table, as opposed to groups. 

Each team will play 8 matches against 8 different opponents.

The top 8 in the league, will advance to the knockout stages. 

Those who finish 9-24th, will compete in two-legged play-offs to join the last 16.

They will no longer play three opponents twice – home and away – but will instead face fixtures against eight different teams, playing half of those matches at home and half of them away. To determine the eight different opponents, the teams will initially be ranked in four seeding pots. Each team will then be drawn to play two opponents from each of these pots, playing one match against a team from each pot at home, and one away.

This gives the opportunity for clubs to test themselves against a wider range of opponents and raises the prospect for fans of seeing the top teams go head to head more often and earlier in the competition. It will also result in more competitive matches for every club across the board.
 

In the knockout phase, the teams which finished between 9th and 16th will be seeded in the knockout phase play-off draw, meaning they will face a team placed 17th to 24th – with, in principle, the return leg at home. The eight clubs which prevail in the knockout phase play-offs will then progress to the round of 16, where they will each face one of the top-eight finishers, who will be seeded in the round of 16.

To strengthen the synergy between the league and knockout phases, and to provide more sporting incentive during the league phase, the pairings of the knockout phase will also be partly determined by the league phase rankings, with a draw which likewise determines and lays out the route for teams to reach the final.

From 32 to 36 - who gets the additional places?

One place will go to the club ranked third in the championship of the association in fifth position in the UEFA national association ranking
One place will be awarded to a domestic champion by extending from four to five the number of clubs qualifying via the so-called 'Champions Path'
The final two places will go to the associations with the best collective performance by their clubs in the previous season (total number of points obtained divided by the number of participating clubs)

For example, based on the collective performance of their clubs last season, England and Italy would have both had an additional spot in the Champions League - meaning Liverpool and Atalanta - both fifth in their respective leagues - would have entered the competition.

Manchester City won the Champions League against Inter Milan, while West Ham beat Fiorentina to claim the Europa Conference League.

For this to happen in the 2024/25 campaign, this year's English clubs would have to provide one of the top two performances across the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.

We will likely only know when that fifth spot will come into play for the Champions League towards the end of the season, when the geographical spread of the participating clubs in the latter stages UEFA competitions is known.

Given that the Champions League will almost double in size - from a total of 125 games to 225 - at least four additional matchdays will be required to fit in the extra games. This will inevitably cause issues for domestic leagues, with fewer dates to fit in all their games.

At the time of the new model's announcement back in April 2021, then Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan said: "More and more games, is no one thinking about us players? The new UCL format is just the lesser of the two evils in comparison to the Super League."

- 36 klubova umjesto 32, 4 tima više nego prije, ide direktno treći iz pete lige po petogodišnjem rankingu, idu dodatna direktna mjesta za dvije najbolje lige po rankingu u prethodnoj godini i još jedno dodatno mjesto kroz kvalifikacije u champions pathu

- igra se 8 utakmica prve faze, timovi će biti podijeljeni u 4 jakosne grupe na žrijebu, svaki igra sa po 2 iz svake jakosne grupe, sa jednim kući, sa drugim u gostima, kako se izvuče

- jedinstvena je tabela, prvih 8 ide direktno u osminu finala, oni od 9. do 16. razigravaju sa onima od 17. do 24. za mjesta u osmini finala

- od osmine finala je sve kao i prije

- igrači nisu sretni zbog uvođenja dodatne 4 utakmice na već unaprijed prenatrpan raspored

Igraci bi najradije igrali 30 utakmica u citavoj sezoni, a placeni milionski. Ko ih jebe, neka se naviknu ili neka ne igraju nikako.

Nisam ovo skontao bas najbolje. 

36 klubova se podijeli po šeširima kao i do sada, samo što će ih biti po 9 u svakom. I sad npr. Chelsea je drugi šešir. I igramo sa po dva protivnika iz svakog šešira. Sa svakim igramo samo jednom. Radi ravnopravnosti sa jednim od protivnika iz svake jakosne grupe igramo kod kuće, a sa drugim u gostima. I npr. protivnici nam budu Bayern kući, Real u gostima, Napoli kući, Porto u gostima, Feyenoord kući, Celtic u gostima, Dinamo kući i Legia Warsawa u gostima. Raspored bude nekakav random vjerovatno.

Pa vazno se plasirati na to, a proci u knock out fazu nije tesko, dobijes ove zadnje meceve, par izjednacenih i eto.

Meni ovo nema logike, dakle nakon tih 8 tekmi ovaj 24. ima ista šanse ko 9. da ode u osminu finala ? Tj. ako pobjedi tu neku utamicu može da ide u nokatu fazu
